Why is my RPMs running high when I start to accelerate slow?
Michael Hansen Why is my RPM high but slow acceleration?
Fuel Filter Clogging
Another reason for your car not accelerating on high RPMs, regardless of high RPMs or not, is a dirty or even clogged fuel filter. Fuel filters are installed in a car's fuel system to filter out the dirt and the gunk in fuel.
Why is my car at high RPMs at low speed?
When a cars rpm goes up and the car is not picking up speed, this usually means that there is a problem inside the transmission. The valve body, shift solenoids, and or clutches of the transmission probably had gone bad or are worn out to the point they are causing a transmission shifting issue.
Why is my engine revs high without acceleration?
If your engine revs up as you press down on the gas but your vehicle doesn't accelerate as much as you'd expect, you may be dealing with transmission slipping.
Why are my RPMs shooting up?
Faulty idle control valve
If your car has high RPM while idling, it can be attributed to a problem with the idle control valve. This valve helps the car to maintain a specific RPM while idling. This idle control valve also has a fuse which if blown, will stop the valve from working altogether.

What happens if my RPM goes too high?
High idle speeds waste fuel, cause extra wear and tear on your engine, and can be unsafe as well. If your foot should slip off the brake as the engine revs, it could cause your vehicle to lurch forward, putting other drivers and even pedestrians at risk.

Why is my car revving high on its own?
Your car revs on its own because the engine is suddenly putting out more power than before. The problem is probably rooted in the throttle body, EGR valve, or related sensors. If it's a sudden, violent increase in revs, check out the throttle body and associated sensors first – this is probably the most likely cause.

What does a slipping transmission feel like?
A slipping transmission tends to feel like your car is jerking or surging. You might even notice that the engine revs to a high RPM between gear changes. As you are driving, the transmission should be providing constant power to the wheels.
Can a dirty air filter cause high idle?
A clogged filter will reduce the flow of air into the engine, causing a rough idle. It may also increase your fuel consumption. Replacing your air filter is a simple process of removing the old one and replacing it with a new filter.
Will a transmission fluid change Fix slipping?
For low fluid levels, you'll need to add more fluid to repair the problem. For burnt or damaged fluid, you'll need to drain the exhausted fluid and replace it with new fluid. For a leak, however, at least part of your transmission will need to be resealed to prevent further slipping and transmission problems.
Will transmission flush help slipping?
A transmission flush can also get rid of any contaminants that may have been preventing the proper flow of transmission fluid. There are transmission fluid additives available that can help, to an extent, with some transmission slipping.

How do I reset my air control valve?
You can reset the idle air control (IAC) valve by turning the car on, putting the car into park, pressing the brake down, then pushing the gas pedal down, counting down about 5 seconds, turning the car off, waiting 10 seconds and start the car again, checking to see if the car is idling properly.
What happens if you unplug IAC valve?
Disconnecting the IAC while the engine is idling shouldnt cause much of a change. The IAC will remain in the position it was in, and therefor the engine will continue to run fine so long as it's air requirements don't change.
What happens if the idle air control valve is stuck open?
Q: What happens if idle air control valve is stuck open? If a car's idle air control valve is stuck open, it will create a rich air-fuel ratio while the vehicle idles. Therefore, the car's engine may start well while warm and run until it reaches a high enough RPM.
What sensor controls idle speed?
An idle air control valve, also called an idle air sensor control motor, is an electrically operated valve that controls the amount of air that bypasses the throttle plate in cars with a fuel injection system [source: Autozone]. This causes the idling speed of the engine to change as needed.
How much does it cost to fix a idle control valve?
The replacement cost of an idle control valve is anywhere from $120 to $500. The cost of the parts alone will be between $70 and $400+, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. The labor cost should only be around $50 to $100 because it doesn't take that long to remove and replace the old idle control valve.
Where is the idle air control valve located?
Locating the Idle Air Control Valve
The IACV is usually located on the intake manifold near the back of the throttle body.
