In which trophic level DDT is accumulated highest concentration?

Highest concentration of DDT is seen in the tertiary consumers. This phenomenon is called . Highest concentration of DDT is seen in the tertiary consumers.

Which trophic level has maximum number of organisms Why?

Solution : ( 1 ) Maximum number of organisms are at first trophic level because trees and shrubs are producers supplies food and energy to giraffe.

Which trophic level has maximum number of organisms why Class 10?

1 Answer. The bottom most trophic level has the maximum number of organisms because there have to be more food producers than consumers, to sustain life on earth.

What trophic level chemical is like DDT?

Answer. Chemical like ddt are accumulated higher in concentration in the tertiary consumers ans the level of chemical gets increased due to biomagnification!

DDT was sprayed in a lake to regulate breeding of mosquitoes. How would it affect the trophic levels

Which organisms contain the most DDT?

Worms, grasses, algae, and fish accumulate DDT. Apex predators, such as eagles, had high amounts of DDT in their bodies, accumulated from the fish and small mammals they prey on.

Why does DDT increase up the food chain?

When an animal consumes food having DDT residue, the DDT accumulates in the tissue of the animal by a process called bioaccumulation. The higher an animal is on the food chain (e.g. tertiary consumer such as seals), the greater the concentration of DDT in their body as a result of a process called biomagnification.

Which trophic level contains maximum amount of a energy b chemicals?

1. First trophic level: It comprises producers which can prepare their own food using sunlight. This level has the maximum energy. Example- plants.

Why are the maximum number of organisms in a terrestrial ecosystem found at first trophic level?

Answer: The first trophic level is composed of a large number of individuals i.e. producers that are capable of producing their own food by trapping the energy of the sun.

Which trophic level has the highest population in a food chain?

Therefore, the Decomposers level has the largest population in the food chain.

Why there are generally a great number of individuals at the lower trophic levels of an ecosystem?

Answer. The first trophic level consists of producers which have a large population. It is important to have more individuals in the lower trophic levels to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. If the primary consumers were more than the producers they would starve to death and thus imbalance in the ecosystem.

Why do you think the amount of DDT is maximum in birds?

However, because chlorinated hydrocarbons accumulate in fatty tissues, when a ton of contaminated fishes is turned into 200 pounds of seabirds, most of the DDT from the numerous fishes ends up in a relatively few birds. As a result, the birds have a higher level of contamination per pound than the fishes.

What happens to the concentration of DDT in each trophic level *?

Solution : DDT concentration continuously increases in successive trophic levels in a food chain. This phenomenon is known as biological magnification or biological amplification.

What is DDT full form?

DDT (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) was developed as the first of the modern synthetic insecticides in the 1940s. It was initially used with great effect to combat malaria, typhus, and the other insect-borne human diseases among both military and civilian populations.

Which trophic level has maximum energy in a terrestrial ecosystem?

In a terrestrial ecosystem maximum energy is in trophic level I because the organisms which trap solar energy are primary producers and they have got maximum energy. Only 10% energy is transferred from one trophic level to next trophic level.

Where is DDT found?

DDT tends to accumulate in the fatty tissues of insects, wildlife, and people, but produces no known toxic effects while it is stored in the fat (2). DDT is metabolized into various breakdown products in the body including DDE, DDD4, and DDA5.

What has DDT?

Animal and fatty foods contain the highest levels of DDT and PCBs because they are stored in fat and increase in concentration as they move up the food chain. Even though it was banned in 1972, vegetables, meat, fish, and dairy products contain DDT.

What happens to the concentration of DDT in each trophic level * 1 point decrease increases remains unchanged becomes zero?

Hence, the correct answer is 'Increases'.

Why do high levels of DDT in birds such as bald eagles and brown pelicans lead to declines in population sizes?

DDT is an insecticide that can pass up the food chain from insects to small birds and then from the small birds to birds of prey like hawks. … High concentrations of DDT in birds cause weakness in the shells of their eggs which leads to a reduction in their population.

What is impact of DDT on fish eating birds Class 10?

The effect of DDT on fish eating birds are very high because they are at the Highest level of the chain. When fish eating birds , eat fish they increase the concentration of DDT in them ,which cause the thinning of shell of egg ,and premature breaking of egg. Leads to death .

Which one of the following has the largest population in a food chain a producers b primary consumers c secondary?

Decomposers are the organisms that feed on debris left behind by scavengers and release the nutrients in form of simpler substances back to atmosphere. Mostly bacteria and fungi serve the role and represent the largest population of food chain. Thus, the correct answer is option D.

Which is the largest number in a food chain?

Solution : Producers are present in largest number in any food chain. Step by step video & image solution for [object Object] by Biology experts to help you in doubts & scoring excellent marks in Class 12 exams.

Which of the following has the largest number in a food chain?

Solution : producers has the largest population in a food chain.

Which one of the following has the largest population in a producers b primary consumers c Secondary consumers d decomposers?

The correct answer is 'D' – Decomposers.
