What if Earth had rings?

At the equator, the rings would appear to divide the sun, casting a dramatic shadow over half the world. Likewise, the rings themselves would cast shadows on Earth.

Can humans live on Titan?

Robert Zubrin has pointed out that Titan possesses an abundance of all the elements necessary to support life, saying "In certain ways, Titan is the most hospitable extraterrestrial world within our solar system for human colonization." The atmosphere contains plentiful nitrogen and methane.

What planet could we live on?

Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f are thought capable of hosting life. The planet Kepler-69c is located about 2,700 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. This is an illustration of the planet, which is the smallest yet found to orbit in the habitable zone of a sun-like star.

What if the Sun went nova?

If our sun exploded as a supernova, the resulting shock wave probably wouldn't incinerate the entire Earth, but the side of Earth facing the sun would boil away. Scientists estimate that the planet as a whole would increase in temperature to roughly 15 times hotter than our sun's normal surface temperature.

If Pluto Became a Moon of Earth

What if Jupiter hit the Sun?

If Jupiter were mixed throughout the sun, the temperature of the sun would decrease slightly, and perhaps it would take a few hundred years for the sun's temperature to return to its previous level, and maybe we would get a few basis points less solar radiation, but it wouldn't go out. Highly active question.

Can you breathe Europa?

Europa has a thin oxygen atmosphere, but it is far too tenuous for humans to breathe. From the surface of Europa, Jupiter appears 24 times larger than the moon appears in our sky. Europa's magnetic field shields its surface from Jupiter's deadly radiation.

Is life possible on Europa?

Europa's surface is blasted by radiation from Jupiter. That's a bad thing for life on the surface – it couldn't survive. But the radiation may create fuel for life in an ocean below the surface. The radiation splits apart water molecules (H2O, made of oxygen and hydrogen) in Europa's extremely tenuous atmosphere.

What if Saturn was our moon?

Because Saturn is so large, the Earth would quickly become its moon. And if Earth orbited around Saturn, it simply wouldn't be the Earth we know today. Finally, moving on to the big guy, Jupiter. At 41 times the size of the Moon, you wouldn't even be able to see the North and South poles of the gas giant.

What planet rains diamonds?

Deep within Neptune and Uranus, it rains diamonds—or so astronomers and physicists have suspected for nearly 40 years. The outer planets of our Solar System are hard to study, however. Only a single space mission, Voyager 2, has flown by to reveal some of their secrets, so diamond rain has remained only a hypothesis.

Is Earth the only planet with life?

Earth is the only planet in the universe known to possess life. The planet boasts several million described species, living in habitats ranging from the bottom of the deepest ocean to a few miles up into the atmosphere. Researchers think far more species remain that have yet to be described to science.

What happens if the sun dies?

Once all the helium disappears, the forces of gravity will take over, and the sun will shrink into a white dwarf. All the outer material will dissipate, leaving behind a planetary nebula. "When a star dies, it ejects a mass of gas and dust — known as its envelope — into space.

Does it rain on Titan?

While Earth rain falls at about 20 miles per hour (9.2 meters per second), scientists have calculated that rain on Titan falls at about 3.5 miles per hour (1.6 meters per second), or about six times more slowly than Earth's rain. Titan's raindrops can also be pretty large.

What if Earth crashed into Jupiter?

As we crash into Jupiter, both planets' atmospheres will be compressed, rapidly increasing the temperature, and essentially setting the air on fire.

What if Earth had 2 moons?

If Earth had two moons, it would be catastrophic. An extra moon would lead to larger tides and wipe out major cities like New York and Singapore. The extra pull of the moons would also slow down the Earth's rotation, causing the day to get longer.

What if Earth rotated backwards?

If the earth abruptly changed its rotational direction, probably many things we see every day would be destroyed. Skipping over the transition, however, an earth rotating in the opposite direction would, among other things, cause the sun, moon and stars to appear to rise in the west and set in the east.
