Which is the best method of SSB generation?

The two methods of SSB generation are (i) frequency discrimination method and (ii) the phase discrimination method. The frequency discrimination method of SSB generation given in figure 1, is based on suppressing one of the sidebands from the double-side-band suppressed carrier (DSB-SC) modulated waveform.

What is SSB technique?

Single sideband modulation, SSB is the main modulation format used for analogue voice transmission for two way radio communication on the HF portion of the radio spectrum. Its efficiency in terms of spectrum and power when compared to other modes means that for many years it has been the most effective option to use.

What is the third method of SSB generation?

Third Method of SSB generation:

Instead of trying to phase-shift the whole range of audio frequencies, this method combines them with an AF carrier fo, which is a fixed frequency in the middle of the audio band, 1650 Hz.

What is phase-shift method in SSB?

The phase shift method of SSB generation uses two balanced modulators and 90° phase shiftier but avoids the requirement for filters. The audio is shifted a total of 90° either by a pair of ± 45° phase shiftier or a single 90° phase shifter.

SSB Generation Methods : Phase Shift Method and Filter Method Explained

What is the third method?

The Weaver technique or the third method of generation of single sideband modulation with suppressed carrier (SSB-SC) amplitude modulation (AM) signals is one such algorithm which looks deceptively simple when compared with the more analytically tractable phase-shift method.

What is SSB USB and LSB modes?

)\nMost voice signals on HF are SSB, so you have to choose between USB upper sideband (USB) and lower sideband (LSB). The actual SSB signals extend in a narrow band above (USB) or below (LSB) the carrier frequency displayed on the radio.\n\nHow do you choose?

What is the main benefit of SSB?

The advantage of SSB is its narrow bandwidth and higher power efficiency than the other voice modes. The Other Options: The wide bandwidth of FM provides a higher fidelity, while the fidelity of SSB suffers with narrower bandwidth, so option 'A' is out.

Where is SSB used?

SSB (Single Sideband) is an obscure but very important way to communicate via radio. It is used primarily for two-way voice communication by ham radio operators, aircraft and air traffic control (ATC), ships at sea, military and spy networks. Occasionally some shortwave broadcast stations use this format.

Which of the following are the methods for generation of SSB waves Mcq?

Analog Communications Questions and Answers – Method of Generation of SSB-SC

• A duplex arrangement use separate frequencies for transmission. ...
• VSB modulation is used in televisions because it avoids phase distortion at low frequencies.

What is the difference between DSB-SC and SSB-SC?

It explains basics of DSBSC and SSBSC and mentions useful difference between terms. DSB-SC stands for Double SideBand Suppressed Carrier and SSB-SC stands for Single SideBand Suppressed Carrier. Both of these are modulation techiques used in AM(Amplitude Modulated) frequency spectrum.

Which is better DSB or SSB?

We can see that the SSB transmission does not suffer from the effect of power fading induced by fiber dispersion, while the DSB has a high tolerance to power fading, due to the low frequency of RF carrier [8] . The DSB has a better performance than SSB under short distance because of double sideband. ...

What are the disadvantages of SSB SC AM?

Disadvantages of SSB-SC Modulation

The generation and reception of SSB signal is complicated ( which we will discuss later in our following post ). The SSB transmitter and receiver need to have an excellent frequency stability . A slight change in frequency will hamper the quality of transmitted and received signal .

What are the advantages of SSB SC over AM?

Percentage of power saving in SSB is 83.33%. In the spectrum of AM wave, both the sidebands carry same amount of information which makes it meaningless to transmit same information in both the sidebands thus leading to power wastage. This is overcome in the SSB technique by suppressing undesired sideband.

Do I need SSB?

Do You Need One? Without getting into the gruesome technical detail…the answer for most boaters is: Probably Not. If you are planning to cruise full time or sail offshore making blue water passages, then an SSB can be a VERY useful and powerful tool.

Is SSB better than AM?

An SSB radio transmitter suppresses the carrier and one of the redundant sidebands, and thus transmits the operator's voice in less than half the bandwidth of an AM signal, and with much more efficient use of energy.

What is SSB voice?

Audio Sample. Single-sideband voice is a subtype of amplitude-modulated voice which only uses one sideband and typically lacks a reference carrier as well—this case is referred to as single-sideband suppressed carrier (SSB-SC).

Is shortwave AM or SSB?

It is a compromise between AM and SSB, enabling simple receivers to be used, but requires almost as much transmitter power as AM. Its main advantage is that only half the bandwidth of an AM signal is used.

What are upper sideband and lower sideband?

In electronic signal transmission, a sideband is the portion of a modulated carrier wave that is either above or below the basic ( Baseband ) signal. The portion above the baseband signal is the upper sideband ; the portion below is the lower sideband .

What frequencies are SSB?

A marine SSB system operates on marine radio spectrums called shortwave, medium frequency and high frequency — 2 MHz-26 MHz. This radio spectrum is shared with hundreds of other radio users including shortwave broadcasts, Ham radio, FEMA, the American Red Cross, and long-range aircraft.

What is Weaver method?

The Weaver technique or the third method of generation of single sideband modulation with suppressed carrier (SSB-SC) amplitude modulation (AM) signals is one such algorithm which looks deceptively simple when compared with the more analytically tractable phase-shift method.

What is phase shift method?

Nowadays, the phase-shifting method (PSM) [1, 2], also known as the phase-stepping method, is one of the most powerful tools in optical metrology and is suited for measuring the phase information of the fringe pattern or interference image.

Why is SSB not used for broadcasting?

When carrier is shifted to bandpass, this one sided bandwidth becomes 9 MHz. This is nearly ten times as large as the total bandwidth occupied by all the channels of the AM radio. Use of SSB modulation would cut this in half but SSB is not used for video signals because of the complexity of the SSB receivers.

What is sideband separation?

Sideband separation is achieved by using a quadrature scheme where two identical mixer junctions are pumped by a local oscillator (LO) with 90 phase difference. We used an innovative mixer layout where the quadrature scheme is implemented using waveguide-based and integrated on-chip components.
