Is 16 SEER worth the extra money?

A 16 SEER unit is about 13% more efficient than a 14 SEER. For every $100 you spend to cool your home with a 14 SEER, you could save $13 on your monthly bill by upgrading to the 16 SEER unit. But just like gas mileage, your ability to meet this maximum efficiency and savings depends on a lot of other factors.

Is a higher SEER rating worth the cost?

A rating above 16 SEER is associated with lower energy consumption, which translates to less money spent on energy costs. Replacing an 8 SEER AC or heat pump unit with a 16 SEER one may save you up to 50 percent on your energy bill.

Is an 18 SEER heat pump worth it?

Enhanced humidity control – 18-SEER ACs are usually better at removing indoor humidity, making the home feel more comfortable at the same temperature. Reduced energy costs – By operating more efficiently, 18-SEER air conditioning systems can save you money on your monthly energy bills.

How efficient is an 18 SEER air conditioner?

18-SEER ACs use precise variable-speed technology, allowing the AC to operate at multiple speeds, which can save you approximately 44% a year on energy costs.

Which SEER rating should I buy?

If you're shopping for a new air conditioner, you may be wondering if you should go with a 14-SEER system (the minimum requirement in our area), or a more energy-efficient system (16+ SEER). Generally speaking, we recommend going with a 16-SEER AC over a 14-SEER AC because it will save you more money in the long run.

What is the most efficient SEER rating?

A higher SEER rating provides greater energy efficiency in certain conditions. The minimum standard SEER for air conditioners is 13, though most modern air conditioners have a SEER that ranges from 13 to 21. Trane air conditioners range from 14.5 SEER up to 22 SEER. But don't forget — this rating is a maximum.

Is there a big difference between 16 and 18 SEER?

An 18 SEER is around 12.5% more efficient than a 16 SEER. That means for every $100 you spend to cool your home with a 18 SEER, you'll save about $12.50 more than the 16 SEER. A good rule of thumb, the higher the SEER the more you'll save on your electric bill.

How many seers do I need for my home?

Is Goodman as good as Trane?

Goodman outperforms Trane in terms of energy-efficiency in the better and best performance tiers. As such, if you opt for a Goodman model, you're likely to save money in the long run, while doing your bit for the environment.

What is the most efficient HVAC system?

Geothermal systems are by far the most energy efficient HVAC systems. They use the consistent temperature of the earth's surface to heat and cool your home, rather than propane or fuel oil. In particular, an open loop geothermal system is one of the most efficient heating and cooling systems.

Does higher SEER mean colder air?

The higher the rating, the less energy used to produce the same amount of cooling as a lower SEER unit. I emphasize “the same amount of cooling”. A higher SEER rating does not mean more cold air, or colder air, it simply means it produces that cold air more efficiently – meaning lower utility bills for the end user.

How much should I pay for a 16 SEER air conditioner?

16 SEER AC Unit Cost

Costs for a 16 SEER AC unit range from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the size and type. This is one of the more recommended SEER ratings for homeowners who want a more efficient unit but do not want to pay too much upfront. If you live in a warmer climate, this can be a good option.

What size air conditioner do I need for a 2400 square foot home?

Does SEER really matter?

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a metric used to measure the ratio of cooling output to the energy consumed. In theory, at least, the higher SEER rating of a unit means the greater energy efficiency you can expect. Unfortunately, SEER ratings don't give a completely accurate picture of energy efficiency.

Is 20 SEER worth the money?

If an air conditioner has a 20+ SEER rating, that is considered an excellent energy-efficient unit.

Does SEER rating apply to heating?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and applies only to cooling. (It's not a great measure of efficiency, but that's the topic of another article.) HSPF stands for Heating Season Performance Factor and is basically the SEER rating for winter.
