How many bags of waste are on the moon?

The six Apollo missions that landed on the moon produced 96 bags of waste. According to the NASA History Office, white jettison bags, or trash bags, are definitely still on the moon, some containing astronaut poop. Aldrin tweeted about it in April, saying, “Well, I sure feel bad for whoever finds my bag.”

What items have been left on the moon?

Aside from trash—from food packaging to wet wipes—nearly 100 packets of human urine and excrement have been discarded. The Apollo astronauts also dumped tools and television equipment that they no longer needed.

Does the moon have debris?

Altogether, the agency estimates that there are more than 36,000 pieces of debris bigger than 10 centimetres across whizzing around in Earth orbit. These include dead satellites, as well as the remnants of past launches and anti-satellite-missile tests.

Our Space Garbage Is Now Reaching The Moon

Does space junk hit the moon?

Usually when a nation-state or a corporation accidentally sends a piece of space junk flying out of control, and it breaks something, other people get upset. Here's a notable exception: A piece of space junk appears to have collided with the Moon at roughly 5,800 miles per hour on March 4th, and scientists are excited.

What happens if you pee on the moon?

As soon as it enters the moon environment the pressure drops by a factor of more than a thousand billion. The pee suddenly finds itself way above it's own boiling point and has to immediately boil into steam.

Has a Bible been left on the moon?

Two hundred of the bibles were kept aboard the Apollo 14 command module "Kitty Hawk," which remained in lunar orbit. The remaining 100 descended to the moon's surface with Mitchell and mission commander Alan Shepard on board the lunar module "Antares" to the Fra Mauro lunar highlands.

Are there nail clippers on the moon?

Rather than bring used cleaning supplies home on the return trip, astronauts have abandoned numerous everyday items on the surface. The list includes earplugs, towels, soap, nail clippers, watchbands, gloves, and boots.

Who pooped on the moon first?

Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin may have been the first people to set foot on the lunar surface when Apollo 11 landed there 50 years ago, on July 20, 1969, but they had to forgo some Earthly conveniences in order to pull off the moon landing.

Who was the first person to pee on the moon?

Fifty years after men walked on the moon, it's time to talk about peeing in space. Buzz Aldrin was the first man to pee on the moon.

What happens to poop in space?

Astronauts say that “Today's coffee is tomorrow's coffee!” Sometimes, astronaut poop is brought back to Earth for scientists to study, but most of the time, bathroom waste — including poop — is burned. Poop is vacuumed into garbage bags that are put into airtight containers.

Can u see the flag on the moon from Earth?

Yes, the flag is still on the moon, but you can't see it using a telescope. I found some statistics on the size of lunar equipment in a Press Kit for the Apollo 16 mission. The flag is 125 cm (4 feet) long, and you would need an optical wavelength telescope around 200 meters (~650 feet) in diameter to see it.

Is there pollution on the moon?

After all, there isn't even any atmosphere on the moon. In fact, a little bit of atmosphere does exist on the moon. Gasses get to the moon from natural causes, by most of the same mechanisms gas accumulates on the Earth or on other planets.

Is there ice on the moon?

For silicate bodies, such features are typically attributed to hydroxyl- and/or water-bearing materials. In August 2018, NASA confirmed that M³ showed water ice is present on the surface at the Moon poles. Water was confirmed to be on the sunlit surface of the Moon by NASA on October 26, 2020.

Is there a military base on the moon?

It took until 1969 before a man—astronaut Neil Armstrong—would take a giant leap for mankind on the surface of the Moon, but there is still no base of any kind on the Moon.

What did we find on the moon?

Molecular water, H2O, was found in Clavius Crater, one of the largest craters visible from Earth in the Moon's southern hemisphere. This discovery indicates that water may be distributed across the lunar surface, and not limited to cold, shadowed places. SOFIA offered a new means of looking at the Moon.

Can a telescope see the moon landing site?

Short answer: Theoretically, yes, but practically, no. It would take an incredibly powerful telescope to see signs of moon landings on the lunar surface, and even the best telescopes we have today are not remotely powerful enough to capture clear images of those signs.

American astronaut John Young, 87, died on Saturday, after a career of many firsts: first man to fly in space six times, pilot of the first Gemini mission, commander of the first shuttle flight, and humorously, becoming the first man to fart on the moon.

Would you hit a golf ball off the moon?

There is no air resistance on the moon to slow the ball's travel. The faster one hits a golf ball, the farther it moves as no fluid resists it. As for making a ball leaving the moon altogether, well, a human truly couldn't. The moon's gravity is weaker than Earth's, but still quite strong.

What is it like sleeping in space?

In space, sleeping on the floor is just as comfortable as sleeping on the wall: there is no difference in the weightless environment. However, since astronauts are used to sleeping on a mattress on Earth, their sleeping bag has a rigid cushion, to exert pressure on their back.

What happens if a rocket hits the moon?

Given the speed that the rocket is traveling, it's likely that little evidence of it will remain besides the crater it has made. At the instant the rocket strikes the moon, a shock wave will travel through the impactor in mere milliseconds, shattering it into shards of exploding metal.
