How much does it cost to Hydrotest a paintball tank?
Andrew Walker How many times can you Hydrotest a paintball tank?
Paintball cylinders need to be retested for its serviceability every three to five years. They also only have a lifespan of 15 years. HYDROSTATIC TEST or HYDROTEST – The tank is visually inspected for cracks then is pressurized with water to look for a drop in pressure or to see if there are any leaks.
How long is a hydro test good for paintball?
Aluminum tank hydrotesting needs to be done every 5 years however these tanks can continue to be retested until they fail. Is it worth it to have my tank hydro tested? Carbon fiber tank hydrotesting is typically worth it if the tank is not at the end of its life, and it is in good visual and working condition.
How long does it take to hydro test a tank?
The pressure must be maintained for a specified time, typically between 30-60 seconds, depending on the cylinder type.
Can you use expired paintball tanks?
Paintball tanks need to be re-hydrotested because the tank expires about every five years, and you want to be sure the tank's pressure doesn't empty out. To have your tank re-hydrotested, you should take it to a paintball gun professional.

What is the difference between Hydrotest and hydrostatic test?
Hydrotesting is another pressure testing option where a liquid (usually water) is injected into a pipe system to check for structural flaws permitting leakage. Hydrostatic testing allows the detection of leaks that only become obvious at elevated operating pressures.
How is hydrostatic testing done?
Hydrostatic tests are conducted by filling an object with water and pressurizing it to test for strength and leaks. The ability to detect leaks in an object is one of the most important reasons why this type of testing should be performed regularly.
How often do co2 tanks need to be hydro tested?
All DOT-3AL marked CO2 cylinders are to be inspected and hydrostatically re-tested every five years as required in CFR Title 49 Part 180.205(c). Cylinders still with charge at the time the 5 year re-test is due, do not have to be re-tested until the charge is used, but prior to the re-filling of the cylinders.
How long is hydro test good for?
The DOT does not specify a service life for steel and aluminum cylinders, but the CGA allows for their reuse indefinitely as long as they continue to pass their hydrostatic and visual inspections every five years.
How much pressure is in a paintball tank?
This pressure is what fires the paintball. Compressed air tanks are pressurized up to the tank's rating of 3000 PSI or 4500 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). The pressure is then regulated through the tank's regulator down to a lower PSI (450-850) to fire the paintball.
What is hydro testing a co2 tank?
Hydrostatic (Hydro) Testing is a process where components such gas cylinders are tested for strength and leaks. Aluminum CO2 cylinders require testing every 5 years. At the time of testing, a date stamp will be imprinted into the cylinder near the top of the tank.
Do air tanks expire?
Air carrying tanks do have “discard by” or “destroy by” dates, usually on one of the legs. These air tanks don't generally have drains and they are low-cost and often cheaply made, so using one past its expiration date is not the best idea.
How long are aluminum co2 tanks good for?
The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that most portable CO2 tanks, both new and used, be re-certified every five years.
How much is a hydro test?
The cost of hydrostatic testing usually depends on the extent of the plumbing system being inspected. Most hydrostatic tests cost between $250 to $500. Bigger plumbing systems can cost thousands of dollars to be inspected.
What are the requirements for Hydrotest?
The hydrostatic test pressure at any point in the piping system shall not be less than 1.5 times the design pressure, but shall not exceed the maximum allowable test pressure of any non-isolated component, nor shall it exceed the limits of calculated stresses due to occasional loads.
Why is Hydrotesting necessary?
A hydrostatic test is a pressure test in which the pipe or other component is pressurized to evaluate its integrity. This test is used to evaluate the structural integrity of pipeline or other pressure containing infrastructure.
What does a failed hydrostatic test mean?
Now that you're up to speed with the basics, we are checking to see if your isolated drain lines hold water or not. Your home *fails* the hydrostatic pressure test if you see the water level drop in lines during the test. Dropping water levels mean a leak is present. Alas, the test has failed.
Can you Hydrotest through a valve?
Test Procedures
In a hydrostatic test, the valve body is filled with testing fluid and then pressure is applied for a specified length of time. The valve is then inspected for any leakage. Learn more about valve leakage tests.
Is Hydrotest mandatory?
Hydro tests are often required after shutdowns and repairs in order to validate that equipment will operate under desired conditions once returned to service. Furthermore, hydrostatic testing cannot be performed during normal operations and cannot monitor equipment for leaks after the test has been performed.
What is minimum Hydrotest pressure?
The minimum hydrotest pressure for oil and gas lines is given in Tables 11.2 and 11.3, respectively, and is equal to 1.25 times the design pressure for pipelines.
Why is hydro test pressure 1.5 times?
Because both pressure and temperature lead to a decrease in Yield strength of the material. However a hydro test can only recreate the pressure and not the temperature, so in order to compensate for the stress due to temperature, an additional pressure effect is added.
How do you get rid of paintball tanks?
If your small CO2 cartridge still has gas inside and you cannot safely release the gas, do not put it in the garbage. Take it to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for free disposal. For larger gas tanks, please contact the tank exchange companies below to ask about disposing of your empty or full tanks.
