What size generator do I need to charge my battery bank?

As a general rule, the generator should be around 2 times the size of the inverter's continuous output. For example, a 4,000-watt inverter should be paired with an 8,000-watt generator. 8kW would make sense as a minimum generator size to power the loads and have enough power to charge the battery bank as well.

How big of a generator do I need to run a battery charger?

How much muscle does your portable generator need to run a high-output battery charger? Simply speaking, a 300-watt generator can handle most 10-amp chargers; step up to a 600-watt generator to power a 30-amp charger.

What size generator do I need to charge a 12 volt battery?

Typically, a generator will need about a 3,500 watt capacity and 8 amp power to fully recharge your 12 volt RV battery. However, a generator with a 4,000 watt capacity can be useful in charging your battery more quickly.

Can you charge a car battery with an inverter generator?

How much current does a car generator produce?

The output of the alternator ranges from 40 Amp up to 120 Amp. For high-amp alternator, it can generate up to 300 Amp. Commercialized alternator is usually 12 V. For some systems, especially for high power system, the alternator varies from 24 V up to 48 V.

How do you charge a 12v battery with a power supply?

To charge a 12-volt lead acid battery (six cells) to a voltage limit of 2.40V, set the voltage to 14.40V (6 x 2.40). Select the charge current according to battery size. For lead acid, this is between 10 and 30 percent of the rated capacity. A 10Ah battery at 30 percent charges at about 3A; the percentage can be lower.

Will a generator charge a camper battery?
