But at the same time, the higher the frequency, the faster the data is transmitted. Therefore, the 5GHz band carries more data and sends it faster. Then, if your priority is to provide an excellent WiFi speed performance, your choice should lean to the 5GHz band, instead.

Should I separate my 2.4 GHz and 5GHz?

No. What you want to do, is get as many devices setup using 5Ghz, and use the 2.4Ghz as a fall-back. The reason is that because 2.4Ghz bands overlap, 2.4Ghz is usually very overcrowded with neighbour networks. 5Ghz allows a faster speed too depending on the specifications.

Should I name my 2.4 GHz and 5GHz same SSID?

If you are working with just a lone Wi-Fi router, then using the same SSID on both bands can help devices stay connected, especially in areas where 5 GHz can't reach but 2.4 GHz can.

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the three-dot overflow icon, then tap Advanced > Wi-Fi Frequency Band. Now, pick a band: either 2.4GHz (slower, but longer range) or 5GHz (faster, but shorter range).

Can I use both 2.4 and 5GHz at the same time?

Simultaneous Dual Band supports two separate WiFi networks simultaneously using both 2.4- and 5-GHz frequency bands. It not only doubles the available bandwidth but also allows for a more reliable dedicated WiFi network for video and gaming (5GHz) to be created.

Do dual band routers switch automatically?

Will my phone and tablet switch automatically between the bands? It depends on your device. Older devices might not be able to connect to the newer 5GHz band at all, while others will flip seamlessly between them.

Does turning off 2.4GHz make 5GHz faster?

Not really. The bands don't overlap and 5GHz has shorter range. One reason you might want to do it is if 2.4 is crowded with other people but you have 5GHz to yourself. If you disable 2.4 then the other people may be less likely to upgrade.

What 5GHz channel should I use?

All of the 5 GHz channels offered support at least 20MHz channel width without overlap. When using 5 GHz, it is recommended to use at least 40 MHz channel width, as some client devices may not prefer 5 GHz unless it offers a greater channel width than 2.4 GHz.

Why do my phone connect to 2.4 instead of 5GHz?

Most Android™ devices prefer range over speed. If the Wi-Fi Name is the same on your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band network, by default, your Android device will automatically connect to the 2.4 GHz band.

Why is my phone not using 5GHz WiFi?

Why Is Your 5GHz WiFi Not Showing Up On Android? The issue may lie in that the router or the Android devices don't support the 5GHz network.
