Puncture the artery using an 18-gauge arterial cannulation needle using a modified Seldinger's technique with an anterior wall puncture. Avoid back wall puncture whenever possible. Enter the skin at a 30- to 45-degree angle so as to cannulate the artery 2 cm superior to the skin incision.

Is deep femoral vein superficial or deep?

How big is the femoral vein?

The mean femoral vein diameter differed significantly between supine position (13.6 ± 3.0 mm) and upright position (16.4 ± 2.6 mm). Males possessed a significant bigger diameter than females. A significant positive correlation between femoral vein diameter and body mass index was observed.

How easy is it to cut your femoral artery?

Although it is an uncommon site for a penetrating wound, the femoral artery is quite vulnerable to injury as it lies superficially unprotected by muscles or bony structures.
