A proper grip specific to you is the source of a square club face. A club face that is overly open or closed will cause a golfer to have to make a compensation within their swing and these two wrongs that can occasionally make a right, will lead to inconsistency.
What club should I use for 100 yards?
Your 56' or sand wedge is one of the most valuable clubs in your bag when within 100 yards of the pin. With the proper swing, you should be able to get the distance you need, with enough loft and spin to drop your ball straight into its landing zone.
Why am I not making good contact with the golf ball?
Typically, this means that the clubface does not come into direct contact with the golf ball as something has happened on the backswing, downswing or transition. A common error is that golfers tend to catch too much turf first, therefore hitting the ball too high on the face. This is known as a fat, or heavy, shot.

What percentage of golfers can break 80?
Only about 2 percent of all golfers ever break 80, which generally is considered the Holy Grail of scoring. To legitimately break 80 — no improved lies; no 3-foot gimmes; no free drop from out of bounds — is to breathe the rarefied air of good, if not great golf.
Why do I hit the ground before the ball with my irons?
When a player hits the ground before the ball it is generally because their club is attacking the ball from too shallow an angle. Golf coaches refer to this as the "Angle of Approach".
Why do I play well at driving range but not on course?
You're not aiming at a target on the range
On the range, many golfers just swing without knowing where they are aiming, simply working on solid contact. While there is a time and place for that, it doesn't always transfer to the course if you aren't being more thoughtful with your practice time.
Where are you supposed to look when hitting a golf ball?
If you're continually hitting the ground before the ball, focus your eyes on the front edge (target side) of the ball during the swing. It may not seem like much—the diameter of the golf ball is just 1.68 inches—but shifting your sight line forward even this small amount nudges your center of gravity toward the target.
Should I aim in front of golf ball?
Trying to keep your eye on the ball pretty much ensures that your club will bottom out too soon. If you want to hit crisp irons from the fairway, your focus should be well forward of the ball.
Is it better to stand closer to golf ball?
Stand closer to the ball and allow the hands and butt end of the club to be no further than three inches from the body. The closer the better. Standing too far away from the ball and reaching out will cause a low trajectory, cause a golfer to cast the club, come over the top and hit the ball on the toe of the club.
