How are jute fibres converted into fabric?
Daniel Hoffman How is jute converted into fabric?
Answer: The jute plant is normally harvested at flowering stage. The stems of harvested plants are bundled and immersed in water for 10 to 15 days. The stems rot (the process is called retting) and fibres are separated by hand. These fibres are converted into yarns to make fabrics.
How fibres are converted to fabric?
To produce a garment, raw material is turned into fibre, that fibre is turned into yarn (or thread) and then yarn becomes fabric. Whether the material is cotton, wool, synthetic or cellulosic, the processes of transforming fibre to fabric to fashion are the intermediate stages in garment production.
What are the steps in making fabric and jute fibres?
The fibres are then separated from the stem in long strands and washed in clear, running water. The fibres are then spread out or hung up to dry for between 2-3 days. The dried fibres are then collected and bundled to be sent to the mills to be processed into fabric, ropes, gunny sacks etc.
What are the steps in jute processing?

How retting and extraction of jute fibre is done?
In conventional retting, a huge biomass undergoes decomposition in stagnant water, so retting causes environmental pollution. In ribbon retting, ribbons are stripped out mechanically from the stem of mature jute plants, coiled and allowed to ret under water. Ribbon retting reduces time of normal retting by 4–5 days.
What is retting of jute?
Retting. Retting is a process in which the tied bundles of jute stalks are taken to the tank by which fibres get loosened and separated from the woody stalk. The bundles are steeped in water at least 60 cm to 100 cm depth.
Which of the following three processes are involved in converting fibre into fabric?
11. Which of the following three processes are involved in converting fibre into fabric? Sol. (b) Fibre → Yarn → fabric.
What are the two methods of converting yarn into fabric?
Answer:There are four ways to convert yarn into fabric:
- Weaving.
- Knitting.
- Crotchet.
- Felting.
What are the two main process of making fabric from yarn?
There are many ways by which fabrics are made from yarns. The two main processes are weaving and knitting.
How are the fibers of cotton or jute converted into clothes?
This process of making yarn from fibre is called spinning. Not just jute, even cotton, silk and other fibres are spun to convert them into yarn. Machines are used for spinning yarn on a large scale. Fabrics like khadi are made by spinning yarn on hand-operated devices like charkhas and taklis.
How is fabric made step by step?
PRODUCTION PROCESS
- SPINNING. Spinning allows the transformation of a mass of disordered fibres (staple) into a unit of great length (yarn). ...
- DYEING YARN. Dyeing is the process of transforming greige (natural) yarn into coloured yarn through the use of colour substances. ...
- WEAVING. ...
- FINISHING. ...
- FINAL CHECKS.
What is the process of making fabric?
The two main processes of making fabric from yarn are weaving and knitting. In weaving process, the two sets of yarns are woven at a right angle to make fabric. The weaving of fabric is done on looms. The looms are either hand operated or power operated.
How is retting done?
The most widely practiced method of retting, water retting, is performed by submerging bundles of stalks in water. The water, penetrating to the central stalk portion, swells the inner cells, bursting the outermost layer, thus increasing absorption of both moisture and decay-producing bacteria.
How fibres are obtained from jute Class 6?
Jute fibre is obtained from the stem of the jute plant. Jute fibres are naturally glued together by a sticky or gummy substance. This sticky substance needs to be removed in order to obtain the fibres. The fibre is extracted from the stem of the jute plant by the process of retting.
What can we make from jute fibre?
The major manufactured products from jute fibre are: Yarn and twine, sacking, hessian, carpet backing cloth and as well as for other textile blends.
What is weaving BYJU's?
Weaving: The process of combining and organizing two different sets of yarns together to make fabric is called weaving. It can be done on looms that are either - hand operated or power operated.
Which of the following three processes are involved in converting fibre to fabric a yarn → fibre → fabric B fibre → yarn → fabric C fabric → fibre → yarn?
Solution: (b) : The process of converting fibre into fabric involves spinning and weaving or knitting. Spinning is the process of making yarn from fibres.
What is a fabric Class 6?
Answer: Fabric means a woven material, a textile or other material resembling woven cloth. Fabric is made up of yarns. Fabrics are made by the two main processes known as weaving and knitting.
Which bacteria is used for retting of jute fibres?
The micro-organism used for the retting of jute is the Butyric acid bacteria - Clostridium genera.
How is jute fibre removed from the dried jute stalks?
Answer: The dried jute is tied into bundles and submerged into running water, it is soaked for up to 20 days, this is called retting. After the jute stalks are well soaked they are removed from the water and hit with a wooden hammer to loosen the fibres from the stalks.
Why jute is called Golden fibre?
Jute is considered as the golden fiber. It is so called because of its shiny brown colour. It is most affordable natural fiber and is 100% biodegradable. It is made of cellulose and lignin plant material.
What retting means?
retting, process employing the action of bacteria and moisture on plants to dissolve or rot away much of the cellular tissues and gummy substances surrounding bast-fibre bundles, thus facilitating separation of the fibre from the stem. Basic methods include dew retting and water retting.
How is jute cultivated describe its harvesting procedure?
- Farmers prepare soil and scatter the seeds.
- After plants grow 15-20 cm tall the harvesting begins. Usually harvesting begins after the flowering and before flower changes to seed.
- The stalks are cut off close to ground. ...
- This process breaks bond between pectin bonds and permits fibre to be separated.
Why is retting necessary in the process of harvesting jute?
After harvesting the stems of jute are immersed in water. Bacteria present on jute stems become active after getting appropriate temperature and moisture in water. They softens the tissues of stems and now it become easier to extract jute fibres from stems of this ret jute. The process is known as retting..
