The space agency countered that the risks of a fire in the crew cabin was minimal because it was a low-pressure environment. The spacecraft would be pressurized to just 5 pounds per square inch with pure oxygen. At such a low density, a fire wouldn't explode, it could be managed by a fast-acting crew.

Why do swimmers hyperventilate before diving?

The hyperventilation reduces the body's carbon dioxide content but does not affect oxygen content much, but the Fio₂ of 100 kPa considerably increases the total oxygen content. Hyperventilation before diving enables breath hold divers to stay down longer but is very dangerous.

Why do divers enter the water backwards?
