Will Mixing 10 Motor Oils Damage an Engine? Let's find out!

Can I mix 0w40 with 5w30?

Can I Mix 0W-40 With 5W-30 Engine Oil? Yes, if your car manufacturer approves it. If not, you should only use the approved oil. 0W-40 and 5W-30 oils can be combined because 5W-30 is thicker oil than 0W-40, and the extra, lower viscosity will make the start-up oil flow easy and efficient.

Can you mix 5W 20 and 10w 30?

Notwithstanding the recommendations of the car manufacturer, mixing 10w30 and 5w20 will not cause any sort of harm to the engine. However, a few drivers claim that it is safer to combine two multi-grade or straight weight oils, rather than mixing multi-grade with straight weight oils.

Can I mix 2 different engine oils?

WHAT ABOUT MIXING ENGINE OIL BRANDS? Yes. It won't harm your engine to mix, for example, Quaker State^® motor oil with Pennzoil, as long as the oil you use is the weight (or viscosity) recommended in your vehicle owner's manual.

What if I put 10w30 instead of 5w30?

Both 5w30 and 10w30 engine oils have a similar SAE rating, meaning that they will perform the same at high or operating temperatures. The digits 30 indicates the viscosity of the oils when in high temperatures. 10w30, however, will thicken more when in a cold climate. 5w30 is much suitable during the cold season.

What happens if you mix engine oil?

Mixing different types can destabilize your motor oil, reducing its efficiency and affecting your engine's performance. The smartest choice is to stick with the oil type and oil change intervals recommended by your car's manufacturer and visit your local car care experts for affordable services.

Is it OK to mix 5w 20 and 5w30?
